Art Camps for Ages 6-12

All Aboard for Art Adventures

Kids ages 6-12 create their own art adventure with these art camps. Camps are offered for just $75 per class with art supplies included. Those wishing to sign up for both the morning (Class A) and afternoon (Class B) will also be required to pay $25 to cover the cost of supervision and activities during the lunch hour (lunch not included, please pack a sack lunch).

SCHEDULE

Art Camp #1: Spin & Stamp
June 12 – 16  

Class A: Out of This World Adventures (10AM-12 PM)
Let’s take off on an exciting adventure exploring galaxies near and far.  Explore the wonders of planet Earth and discover the mysteries of other heavenly bodies that revolve around the sun. Activities will include painting, sculpture and mixed media projects such as “Paint the Planet,” “Spinning Rockets,” “Glowing Moon Rocks,” and “Solar System Necklaces.”
Instructor: VET

Class B: Printmaking that Pops (1PM-3PM)
Design and carve an original Pop Art inspired design into a printing plate. Then print the design in four colors on a T-shirt in the style of Pop Art icon Andy Warhol.
Instructor: Kimberly Black

Class participants/enrollment max: 15 (each class/in-person)
Class Fees: $75 per class; art supplies included
Staying for lunch hour? $25 for lunch-time supervision; supplementary activities (12 – 1PM)

Art Camp #2: Painting, Planting & Weaving  – 
June 19 – 23 

Class A: Let’s Take It Outdoors (10AM-12 PM)
Celebrate the wonders and resilience of nature through painting, sculpting, and planting. Projects include “Painted Garden,” “Stone & Twig Planter Pots,” “Fish Prints,” “Nature Journals” and more.
Instructor: VET

Class B: Woven Baskets: The Practical Art of Ancient People (1PM-3PM)
Explore the oldest known art form by learning to create a woven basket using the coil weaving method. We will create two baskets, one with traditional jute rope and one with colorful yarn.

Art Camp #3: Design & Draw
July 10 – July 14  

Class A: Re-Use, Re-Cycle & Re-Imagine Art (10AM-12 PM)
Design and create unique pieces of art from recycled materials to make costumes, sculptures, architecture, collages, and more. Feel free to bring additional materials from home for your creations. 
Instructor: Dana Davis-Bailey

Class B: Graphic Images & Pop Words (1PM-3PM)
Explore the comic book style of Pop Art artist Roy Lichtenstein and create images and words inspired by his techniques.

Art Camp #4: Splatter & Sculpt
July 17 – July 21  

Class A: Special Effects with Paint (10AM-12 PM)
Play with water and paint to explore many fun techniques, such as spritzing and marbling that use water to move paint around and create stunning results for your projects.
Instructor: Sheila Cunningham

Class B: Go Big or Go Home (1PM-3PM)
Inspired by the monumental works of artist Claes Oldenburg, campers will construct their own large sculptures of everyday objects.
Instructor: VET

Art Camp #5: Rock and Roll 
July 24 – July 28 

Class A: Shake, Rattle & Rollers (10AM-12 PM)
Is it a costume, a musical instrument or a sculpture? All three! Inspired by artist Nick Cave’s amazing Soundsuit series, create wearable mixed media sculptures that make noise when activated by movement.
Instructor: VET

Class B: Surrounded by Symmetry (1PM-3PM)
Explore radial design and abstract patterns to create beautiful mandalas and other circular and symmetrical compositions with drawings, paintings, foil art and more.
Instructor: Shelia Cunningham

Art Camp #6: Adventures in 3D 
July 31 – August 4 

Class A: Abstract Explorations (10AM-12 PM)
Inspired by techniques of the great Abstract artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, campers will design and construct an interactive sculpture that “explodes” with color and design when opened.
Instructor: Sheila Cunningham

Class B: Clay Portraiture: Who’s Your Hero? (1PM-3PM)
Learn how to sculpt, paint and work with clay to create a portrait of a hero, mentor, or a historical/inspirational figure.
Instructor: Linda Disoway
