Saturday School

Saturday School at Irving Arts Center

Classes meet on six consecutive Saturdays from 2pm-4pm from October through May. Ages 6-10. Tuition is $95 per session including supplies. Tuition for each 6-week session is $95 (art supplies included).  Art Connection members with a Smithsonian Affiliate/Family and above membership receive a 10% discount. 

Session One: Adventures in 2D – Drawing, Painting & More

 October 5-November 9, 2024  |  2pm-4pm | Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: Clara Limberg

Students will explore a variety of mark-making methods and experiment with many drawing and painting materials including watercolor, oil pastels and collage to create their own nature-inspired artworks. Students will also learn about famous artists to prompt their creativity.

Session Two: Explorations in the 3rd Dimension – Sculpture & Mixed Media


January 11-February 15, 2025 |  2pm-4pm | Ages 6-10

$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: Sheila Cunningham

Learn to build unique sculptural creations using paper and other elements! Students will explore and combine different art materials, tools, and processes. 2D and 3D techniques such as painting, collage, printmaking, stenciling and sculpture will be studied and incorporated to make mixed media artworks. Through creative applications of layering and design using texture, color, shape and various materials, students will construct their own uniquely vibrant and inventive compositions.

Session Three: Papier Mâché, Prints & Patterns

February 22-March 29, 2025  |  2pm-4pm  |  Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: Linda Disoway

In this fun, very hands-on class, students will work on three different projects while exploring color, texture and patterns: molding & sculpting shapes and figures with papier mâché, squeezing & squishing paint to create one-of-a-kind printed images called “monoprints” and rolling & pressing clay to make colorful mosaic tiles.

Session Four: My Quilt, My Way

April 5-May 10, 2025  |  2pm-4pm  |  Ages 6-10
$95 for 6-week session (supplies included)
Instructor: VET

Join us and have fun learning to work with fibers! Artist VET will demonstrate easy step-by-step techniques to weave, wrap, twist and braid an assortment of yearns and threads of various textures to create different designs and embellishments. Projects will include hand-building stuffed animals decorated with fringes, tassels, charms, beads and other items; weaving brightly colored wall hangings and creating fabric artist cards to share and trade.

 

ABOUT OUR INSTRUCTORS

Clara Limberg
Clara is an emerging artist and K-12 teacher who specializes in oil painting. She grew up in Irving, Texas and participated in many summer art programs at Irving Arts Center that inspired her love for the arts. She currently teaches sculpture at Irving High School. 

Linda Disoway
Linda is a mixed media artist and educator who teaches and exhibits throughout Dallas, Fort Worth and the surrounding areas. She has taught classes for Irving Arts Center since 1995.  

Sheila Cunningham
Sheila is a fine art photographer exploring the world through cell phone photography, digital collages, Polaroid transfers and artist books. She teaches workshops at universities and fine art centers throughout the country and exhibits her work in one-person and national juried shows.

VET
VET, a recipient of a National Endowment of the Arts award, is a native Texas artist who incorporates environmental recycling awareness through her artwork, commissions and various workshops
