The exhibition, Rooted Visions, showcases 25 self-taught Southern Black artists, who have redefined artistic expression with their innovative use of found objects and everyday materials. Through works by artists such as Mose Tolliver, Hawkins Bolden, and Bessie Harvey, the exhibition explores themes of resilience, storytelling, and the transformative power of creativity within Black communities in the American South. The featured artworks embody the artists’ abilities to express deep-rooted cultural narratives through art in a world that often creates boundaries. Their unique methods and visions have inspired generations—both locally and worldwide—drawing attention to the resourcefulness and creativity that flourishes even amidst adversity.
