Lunch & Learn with Guest Speaker / artist: Sudeep Kumar

Lunch & Learn is a free monthly in-person program, typically held the first Tuesday of the month, from 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. at Irving Arts Center.

Join us for Irving Arts Center’s Lunch & Learn program on Feb. 4 at 12 noon. The guest speaker this month is painter, illustrator and urban sketcher, Sudeep Kumar.

Sudeep’s work is  featured in the exhibition, Invisible Spaces: Watercolors & Drawings by Sudeep Kumar at Irving Arts Center February 1 through March 29.

About the Artist / Guest Speaker

For over a decade Sudeep Kumar has been painting, drawing, sketching, teaching, exhibiting, learning, sharing and inspiring the community.  For him, art is like a meditation, a silent conversation with self and a means by which he can see things more clearly.  Spontaneity, unpredictability and self-discovery in making the artwork are essential to his studio practice.

On one hand, Sudeep Kumar’s work captures the energy or mood of a place or event, presenting it to the audience to have them connect to the subject more closely as if it’s an integral part of their life. On the other hand, it’s a portrait of human emotions underneath our daily struggle for survival or mundane day-to-day activities.

In his art, Sudeep uses charcoal, ink pen, and watercolor but aims to use minimum media/material so as not to distract the viewer from the message he wishes to convey.  And what is that message?  In today’s world of technological advancement, Sudeep believes we as a species are losing touch with our surroundings, our environment and our fellow human beings. Real connection or intimacy is missing.  Through his art, Sudeep conveys these missing elements, so the viewer may take a step back from their busy life to explore their surroundings more fully and appreciate the hidden beauty in everyday experiences.
