Lunch & Learn is a free monthly in-person program, typically held the first Tuesday of the month, from 12 noon – 1:30 p.m. at Irving Arts Center. But this month, we are moving the program up in order to feature an exhibition which closes on March 1. Arthur Primas will join us Thursday, February 27 from noon to 1:30PM to discuss his collection of works, many of which are featured in the extraordinary ehibition, Artistry Abounds: Selections from the Arthur Primas Collection, presented by the Irving Black Arts Council in recognition of Black History Month.
About the Artist / Guest Speaker
Arthur Primas is a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and an avid art collector. He has been collecting art since the mid-1990s and gravitates toward pieces that tell a story and have social commentary. The exhibition at the Irving Arts Center features African American art spanning 200 years and explores themes of freedom, identity and cultural expression with artwork by luminaries such as Aaron Douglas, Romare Bearden, John Biggers, Elizabeth Catlett, Robert Colescott, Jacob Lawrence, Charles White and more! And it represents only a fraction of Mr. Primas’s complete holdings, recognized as one of the most important collections of African American art in the U.S.
