A Place for You
As a community arts facility, we are always happy to oblige when members of the community want to get involved. Everyone has a role to play. Current opportunities include volunteering as an usher, greeter, or as a docent. We also have a program just for High School students. To learn more about all of these opportunities please read through this page, visit our volunteer hub or you can send an email to artscentervolunteers@cityofirving.org.
Become an Irving Arts Center Docent!
Volunteers can also serve as a gallery docent (no residency requirement). Our docents are trained to provide educational and informative tours of the Arts Center’s exhibitions. Being a docent is a great way to connect with others in the art community while helping to promote the arts and supporting visual artists who exhibit their works in Irving Arts Center’s four gallery spaces. There’s always a new exhibition on the horizon so this job never gets old! To apply, simply fill out a volunteer application and send an email regarding your interest to Cindy Perreira at cperreira@cityofirving.org.

Irving Arts Center Docents in Action
In the video below, IAC Docent, Robert Batson could hardly wait to talk about one of his favorite films and the beautiful cinematic stills that make up the impressive Lonesome Dove: Photographs by Bill Wittliff exhibition. This video comes as part of our weekly Gallery Spotlight video series and is a great example of how our Docents are actively promoting the arts!

Grant Panelists Wanted!
Irving Arts Center seeks Irving residents to serve as 2024-25 Community Grant Review Panelists. Those wishing to be considered may be nominated by others or apply directly by completing an on-line nomination form. The deadline for submission is September 6, 2024.
Irving residents who have knowledge of the visual and/or performing arts as practicing artists, experience through other participation in the arts, or attend a variety of arts events as a consumer are eligible to apply.
Panelists volunteer their time as a service to Irving Arts Center and the Irving arts community and are appointed for a two-year term. Community members join other peer reviewers selected from the ranks of professional arts and non-profit administrators and artists from across the state. Community panelists are invited to attend events of funded organizations each year prior to the review process in June. (tickets provided by Irving Arts Center).
There is a zoom orientation prior to beginning service. Panelists do not make funding decisions. They review the grant applications on-line, rank them as to their relative quality and merit and provide feedback shared with the applicants and Arts Board. The Arts Board uses this guidance in making funding decisions.
Members from the pool of candidates will be appointed by the Irving Arts Board in September. Every effort is made to appoint panelists that reflect the diversity of Irving, with balanced representation of expertise, experience, and knowledge of the arts.
