New Beginnings presented by the Lone Star Youth Orchestra

The Lone Star Youth Orchestra will open its 24th season on November 9th with a concert titled “New Beginnings”.  This concert will mark the debut of the LSYO’s new conductor Maestro Eliezer Dobrin.  An hour-long program features the “beginnings” of three famous musical works, plus a recently added fourth piece.  Ludwig van Beethoven’s Overture to Egmont is a dark and brooding overture written for a performance of Goethe’s play of the same name, portraying the downfall of a man who trusts in the goodness around him.  Arthur Sullivan’s Overture to The Pirates of Penzance is a light-hearted overture to a piratical romp of an operetta poking fun at English politics and culture of the late 1800s.  Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute is the exciting overture to Mozart’s final opera, a fantastical and whimsical story of a prince lost in a strange land.  The extra added attraction is the fourth movement of Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E Minor “From the New World”, Op. 95, B. 178.
